Being an accountant, I prepared a budget when we started planning our big day about 12 months before our wedding. Tess asked me at that time whether I was going to make provision for a wedding planner. I told her not to be so ridiculous and that it was money that was better spent on other elements of the wedding.
Fast forward six months and I realised how wrong I was!
So after doing some research on wedding planners in the area, I picked up the phone and called Ruth. This was definitely the most important call that I made during the whole wedding planning process. From that point on, she made me feel that everything was under control.
After talking to us at the start, Ruth helped us agree the theme of our wedding (the fact that weddings had to have a theme was new to me!) and went away and came back with a design book of some fabulous ideas. The invitation that she designed was stunning and started the musical theme for our wedding.
As with planning any wedding, there were problems to deal with. Whilst some were minor and to be expected some were slightly more critical such as the loss of the Wedding Reception venue only 3 months before the wedding! Ruth dealt with all problems efficiently and with the minimum of fuss. Tess used to tell me that I'd visibly relax after we had our periodic catch up meetings with Ruth.
I could go on about the work that Ruth did before the day itself but I'd run out of space... From introducing Tess to the lovely Nina who made her dress, to designing and organising the printing of the 'wedding gig' posters to put up on the side of the road, the list goes on
On the day of the wedding, the venue looked sensational. Ruth was there to ensure that everything ran according to the plan that we’d discussed and agreed allowing us to relax (as much as you can relax on your wedding day!) and enjoy the day. Everybody who went to the wedding complimented us on the day and I know that a couple of people asked Ruth for her card.
From a financial point of view, Ruth was also excellent at trying to minimise cost without impacting on the quality of the wedding.
Whilst I don't ever plan on getting married again(!), I think that the biggest compliment that I would pay Ruth is that if I did, the first cost that I would provide for in my wedding budget would be for her.

After many months of discussion we finally decided on a marquee wedding. However, both our jobs require a huge amount of overseas travel so we knew that we were going to need a little help with the organisation.
On carrying out an Internet search for wedding planners in the Cheltenham area, and after reading many testimonials, we decided to contact Ruth to discuss how she would be able to help us. From the outset Ruth was incredibly flexible and willing to arrange meetings at short notice due to our inflexible work schedules. She had plenty of creative ideas and all the supplier contacts which we were lacking.
Ruth took on all the coordination with the marquee company, caterers and ceremony venue as well as taking full control of elements such as the cake, decorations, guest book, invitations and order of the day. With only six moths to go till the wedding date Scott and I had set, nothing in place and Caerphilly castle as the venue we knew we needed help and that came in the form of Ruth Hunter.
From day one she held our hands and walked us through everything, always treating us as individuals and not just clients. We had no real idea of what we wanted, but it had to be spectacular, memorable and a great day out for everyone.
The design booklet we got was full of amazing ideas and after our consultation we felt confident in letting Ruth and her team take full control, with us running any ideas or worries by them 24/7. Nothing phased them, even our idea to have dwarves at the wedding, but was just done with consummate professionalism.
Everyone says a wedding can be one of the most stressful things you will ever do, but with Ruth I have to say we were pretty relaxed about the whole thing, knowing everything was being organised and that we were in her experienced and capable hands.
The day of the wedding was organised with military precision, so much so that we could just sit back and let it all flow around us. The day went without a hitch, but it was great to know that any slight hiccups would be dealt with immediately and through it all, Ruth stayed calm and the day was just perfect.
All our friends and family are still talking about the most amazing wedding that they have ever been to or are likely to go to again, nothing was boring or staid and it was the colourful wedding of my dreams.

As a very busy couple who had been engaged for ten years, we were struggling with finding the time to arrange our long overdue wedding. After plenty of research, we met with three event organising companies. Finesse Planning was a clear leader and after meeting Ruth, we had no hesitation in using her company.
Ruth took all our thoughts and wants and acted on them. We had very definite ideas in some areas, and not a clue in others! Ruth made it all simple with fantastic suggestions and creative ideas, finding us the perfect venue, decorated and accessorised to our taste, arranging many personal touches. We had planned what we considered to be quite a simple wedding, so when my mum suggested we consider getting a wedding planner to look after things on the day we were a bit sceptical as to what could be done that we hadn’t already done or couldn’t do ourselves....then we spoke to Ruth and realised just how much she actually could do for us!
Meeting Ruth at our planning meeting reassured us that she had exactly the right personality to make this work, and also provided a number of suggestions and ideas for how we might consider changing and adding to what we had planned (for the better!).
Being able to hand over a list of our suppliers and their contacts the week before the wedding was a welcome relief as there were so many little jobs to do that ended up taking more time than we expected. We were also able to contact Ruth with any last minute issues and she was a calming influence when it came to a crisis of confidence in the dress thanks to a very unhelpful shop!
Ruth really came into her own on the day, however, when she turned up with all of our flowers (our florist was unable to deliver the bridal party flowers) and very quickly moved to making sure everyone was calm, properly dressed, flowers attached accordingly and generally didn’t want for anything.
Ruth then headed off to make sure the venue was looking as we planned and add finishing touches so that it looked perfect. We were aware of some issues on the day that Ruth sorted out (like extra guests turning up and expecting seats and dinner!), but found out after the event that there were a number of other things that Ruth had sorted out without us even knowing about it-and that’s the true value of Ruth.
As well as making sure we (and everyone else) were where they were meant to be and when, we had the luxury of being able to relax and know that we didn’t need to think of anything other than ourselves, our family and friends. We had numerous comments about how helpful, friendly and professional Ruth was from both guests and suppliers.
We cannot recommend Ruth’s services highly enough-she really is an insurance policy for the biggest (and probably most expensive) day of your life!!

I knew when I started planning my wedding that I would need some help on the big day - I only had one bridesmaid and none of our family or friends are local to where we live so wouldn't have a clue about alternative options if something failed to arrive on the day. Also, I found out after booking the venue (owned by the town council) that it would not have an on-site coordinator by the time my wedding rolled around due to budget cuts. In came Ruth, who I read an article by in one of the Cotswold bridal magazines and who came with the recommendation of our caterer.
Though I'd only booked originally for her on-the-day coordination I ended up relying on her for some interim consultation on suppliers when I got stuck on some aspects of the planning. Ruth was able to recommend some wonderful suppliers in our area who I could count on to be reliable. All the suppliers Ruth recommended were consummate professionals and we knew we were in good hands. In the months leading up to the wedding, Ruth was available by email and phone with pointers and help whenever things got a touch stressful.
Three weeks before the wedding Ruth walked us through every microscopic detail of the day (right down to how I wanted the napkins folded!!) so that everything would look perfect and flow smoothly; and it did.
She confirmed all suppliers so we didn't need to worry, and ironed out some last minute questions about how the cake was getting collected and where our guest coach was going to park. On the day, we walked into the Pump Rooms ballroom to see everything laid out as we'd envisioned. Everything looked amazing, and we hadn't had to worry or order around any of the bridal party to set up for us (so they could kick back and enjoy the day too!).
Throughout the afternoon Ruth kept things running smoothly and on schedule. She ensured everyone was outside for photos and confetti throwing at the correct moment, and handed out the confetti and 'escort cards' to our guests along with her assistant Vicky. When it came time for a bridal costume change before the meal, Ruth was even on hand to fix my hair after the veil came out and did a great job re-doing my hair for the evening celebrations.
Without her there all the little snags and questions would have fallen on our shoulders leading to anxiety and potential panic, missed items and timing gone awry. With Ruth on hand to take care of things, we had a wonderful day to look back on and no stress in the mix to tarnish the memories.

When Aaron and I decided to get married nearly 18 months ago, we decided we were going to try and do as much as possible ourselves to save on costs, however needed someone to help pull it all together on the lead up to the big day and manage on the day services.
The night before the wedding I called Ruth at 10pm to let her know that the marquee company had nothing ready, I asked her to arrive early to clear up the mess that BIG TOP had made, she agreed without hestitation. The morning of the wedding Ruth arrived to kick the marquee companies Ass! She whipped them into shape, and luckily everything went to plan from there.
She managed all the problems that arose on the day with speed and had an assistant with her that helped throughout also. I’m so glad I hired Ruth, out of everything I paid for in the run up to our wedding, she is undoubtedly the best thing I spent my money on, and she is worth her weight in gold!. Having her there not only meant she could troubleshoot, but it also took the pressure of my family members who would have been running around like headless chickens, and wouldn’t have the skill set or knowledge to do what an experienced wedding coordinator can do, like find a generator within an hour!.
All the other suppliers also commented on how great she was to work with, and how much easier it made things having one person to oversee everything. My singer Gary sent me this email the day after...

We had hired all the necessary suppliers for our wedding day however we felt our wedding was lacking some individual touches. This led to us searching for a wedding planner and we found the lovely Ruth in the South Wales Wedding Magazine.
From my first phone call with Ruth she was friendly, enthusiastic and full of helpful suggestions to address our tight time scales. We hired Ruth for both the design book and on the day service. The design book Ruth created was full of lovely ideas which we incorporated throughout our wedding day from our invitations to our table decorations giving our wedding day the personal and individual touches we were searching for as well as cost effective ideas.
Throughout the run up to the wedding Ruth was always available with advice when we experienced any hiccups and most importantly there to listen to the stresses, worries and family problems we encountered along the way.
On the day of our wedding knowing Ruth would be at the hotel enabled me to sit back, relax and enjoy being pampered with the full reassurance Ruth would be there to ensure my husband-to-be and his best men’s button holes and handkerchiefs all looked good. We first met Ruth at the wedding show in Cheltenham and the thought of having a wedding planner sounded a great idea as the wedding reception was to be held in a marquee.
Even when we booked Ruth I was completely unaware of how valuable that discussion would be. Four weeks prior to the wedding we had a meeting with Ruth and all the planning Emma and I had done was discussed and the realization of the things we had overlooked were quickly picked up by Ruth. It was at this point I realized how valuable she would be!
As soon as we met we were completely at ease with Ruth and knew it would all be fine. She was available at short notice and it was a great comfort to be able to discuss things with her, as she was so knowledgeable about everything.

Ruth made us feel very special and was calm at all times. Everyone had a lovely time and thanks to Ruth everything was as we had planned, it could have been so different!

As soon as I got engaged I bought a file and thought about everything I wanted for my wedding. Like most brides I thought I could easily plan the whole thing single handily, remain stress free and have the perfect wedding. I could not have ...been more wrong!!
I came across a wedding planner in the south wales wedding magazine called Ruth Hunter. After seeing the brilliant webpage I decided that I would like to use her services, what I didn’t realise was just how much I NEEDED her!! Every step of the way she was on hand, she thought of everything I forgot and some things I could never even imagine.
When things went wrong last minute Ruth was on hand to fix it, even as far as making wedding stationary the night before and getting a new cake the morning of the wedding!!
We used Ruth for the design service as well as the on the day service and the room was beyond belief every single guest, man, woman and child commented on something they loved in the reception room. Even some of the staff commented that in all the weddings they had done they had never seen a reception like ours. It was truly perfect.
On the day Ruth set everything up professionally and effortlessly and I didn’t need to even think twice about what was happening behind the scenes when I saw the ceremony room and reception room it was overwhelming the amount of detail that went into it. Everything had been adapted perfectly to our requests.
Ruth is a down to earth, funny, welcoming woman. She puts all your stresses as ease and she treats you like an individual and not a client. More importantly she treats you as a friend. Her wealth of knowledge is invaluable, her ideas are unique and her skills are priceless.
It was the best day of our lives but there was one sad moment when Ruth said goodbye and we realised that we wouldn’t be seeing her or speaking to her as regularly as we had, because we will truly miss her warm and friendly personality, we hope to keep in contact as we have come to look at her as a friend and not just an events co-ordinator.

We decided to hire a wedding planner because our venue (Cardiff Castle) did not have a dedicated wedding coordinator and we wanted to make sure the day ran smoothly.
Following our initial meeting with Ruth, we knew she would be perfect for the job! It was such a relief in the days running up to the wedding, not to be having to phone suppliers with final arrangements, as Ruth took care of all of this.
On the day itself Ruth was absolutely invaluable, from re-doing my hair which had fallen out, to decorating the ceremony room and generally ensuring the day went without a hitch. We originally booked the 'on the day' service with Ruth because we were having our reception in an non conventional venue and we were impressed with Ruth's experience. She proved completely invaluable when our reception venue was cancelled five days before the wedding, managing to organise a second venue incorporating all of our original ideas. Nina Furness (my dress designer) mentioned Ruth Hunter's name to me several times when I saw her for my various fittings and I always thought having a planner was a great idea. Months elapsed before I bumped into Ruth at a wedding fair. From that moment on my life became far far easier.....
Professional wedding planner isn't really a title I would use for Ruth....she is just so much more than that. Utterly reliable, creative, a person for whom only the best will do. Nothing is too much trouble.

Ruth was engaged halfway through the wedding arrangements when most of the key elements were booked, which cannot have been as easy for her as starting from scratch would have been. Our daughter had a very clear idea of what she wanted for her wedding day, that is to say a classically English wedding in a beautiful Regency setting. However, as there were a large number of guests and quite a few different and challenging elements to the celebrations, Ruth stepped in and, undaunted, co-ordinated all the elements, with relish. It was good to be able to hand over the reins myself at this point.
I can highly recommed her services as her attention to detail equalled that of my own (which, I admit, is exacting.) I could relax in the knowledge that high standards were a priority for her.
Ruth was unfazed by the various challenges that were presented to her, as they occurred, and nothing was too much trouble for her to tackle. She had a calm systematic approach and best of all was there on the day, with a firm hand on the tiller, right through from helping the bride to get ready (and even making sure that she ate lunch) to being almost the last to leave after the bride and groom and all the guests had departed.
A masterstroke was Ruth's suggestion of having Pimms with ice cream (from an ice cream cart) instead of canapes, during the photographs. The guests loved it.
The finale to the day was the release of wishing lanterns over Pittville Park, again masterminded by Ruth. The guests were in raptures.
A truly wonderful wedding was had by all, in a gorgeous setting, and everything was just as perfect as it could have been (even the weather!)

During the day it was extremely helpful to have someone independent and who would be able to be relied upon to sort out any problems, and ensure our ideas for our wedding day were represented.
I now strongly feel that a wedding planner is an invaluable investment in any wedding, and I would give any bride-to-be this advice.

Ben and I just wanted to write to say a heartfelt "thank you" for your "There On Your Day" service at our wedding at The Orangery in Margam Country Park on 18 April 2009.
I don't think we realised the full extent to which you helped our day go so well (we were aware of a huge number of things that you had so smoothly taken care of for us, but didn't realise that there had been so many more!) until after the wedding when our family kept telling us exactly what you'd been doing (my Dad is still singing your praises for going out and getting the right extension leads for the computer so that we could play our music during the wedding breakfast)!
Needless to say, we are extremely grateful, but not surprised that you had managed to solve so many hiccups on the day - your calm demeanor from our first meeting until the end of our wedding day also helped us to enjoy not only the wedding day but also the approach to the wedding day, as we knew that we could count on you if there were any problems.
The professionalism, efficiency and flexibility that you showed on the day, regarding everything from dealing with the surprise last minute "to do" list that I had compiled the night before (again, sorry for that!) and taking everything we needed for the day to the venue to helping the flowergirl use the bubble gun and curling the Groom's mother's hair, were priceless, and we will be letting all of our friends (and any other future brides and grooms we encounter) know how much you helped!

I am just writing to say the biggest thank you. I really put everyone to the test when I needed to plan my wedding in only 10 weeks from start to fininsh. Just to make things more difficult, I wanted two ceremonies, a civil & a pagean hand fastening. Due to my cancer we needed to rush things so I thought I was gonna have to let go of my dream wedding and just make do with whatever we could put together in such a short time. But thanks to your help we got the wedding of our dreams and much more! Once we had organised the civil ceremony in the summer house, I was still hoping we could find a way to have our hand fastening done under a tree, but we needed a wizardry celebrant to conduct this services.... you found me one with just over a week to go.
In the crazy days before the wedding I was in such a muddle about what needed to be done (never having planned a wedding before), you kept in touch with me nearly everyday, reminding me of things I need to get on with.
On the actual day of the wedding, so much would have gone wrong without your help, you went beyond the bounds of your duties I'm sure. You gave me such a confidence boost on the morning, then you went to the venue and sorted all the men out, because just like men they had been paying no attention as to what they might have to do on the day whilst things were being planned, but you were there on the day to make sure they did what was expected of them.
The biggest thank you of all is for the time you took to help me do all this, there is no way I would have had such a beautiful wedding without your help. At the start I had no idea what to do...then you came to the rescue. I am so glad I found you.
